The health ministry is preparing a summary to promote doctors working at three major healthcare institutions of the federal capital. Official sources told Business Recorder that the summary to promote doctors at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic) and National Institute of Health (NIH) would soon be submitted to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Besides promotions, the summary also contains an exclusive package, including provision of travel and entertainment allowances to doctors.
Sources said Health Secretary Syed Anwar Mehmood has received plethora of complaints during his visits to these institutions.
He was told that hardworking and dedicated doctors are being given very nominal salary packages. Anwar Mahmood had assured them that the government would make serious efforts in this regard.
"We have some cases in which doctors have not been promoted for the last 18 years", said the sources, adding the government is not giving them any travel or entertainment allowance, therefore, they are compelled to run their private hospitals.
Sources claimed that the health ministry is also planning to construct more housing colonies for doctors to meet their residential problems.
It was informed that a new service structure would also be announced for the doctors.
