Fata Education Foundation to be set up

A high level meeting chaired by the NWFP Governor Lieutenant General. Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) decided to create Fata Education Foundation with an endowment fund of Rs 107 million. The foundation, it was further agreed will initially establish a Medical College and an Engineering College in the tribal area. The meeting held at Governor's house Peshawar on Saturday was attended besides all the political agents by the Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Secretary Fata Security Brigadier Mahmood Shah (Retd) and Director Education Fata Dr Abdur Rauf.
The endowment fund for the foundation would be contributed by all the tribal agencies and it would be invested in some profit bearing projects so as a permanent source of enhancement in the funds could be ensured.
Addressing the meeting, the governor said that establishment of Frontier Education Foundation at the provincial level had proved very fruitful in promoting education in the province therefore we decided to establish a separate foundation for Fata on the same patron with more or less similar objectives. With the formation of Fata Education Foundation, the governor added higher education opportunities in Fata would broaden thus providing additional facilities to the tribal students in this very field.
The governor said that since the number of degree colleges in Fata had reached 34 in a very short span of time it was felt imperative to have professional colleges for Fata as well.
