Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has urged its consumers to clear their outstanding financial liabilities by December 1 to avoid penalties, imprisonment, attachments of their properties and other lawful actions, which the agency is going to take during recovery campaign against defaulters in early next month. "The consumers are legally and morally bound to timely clear dues against the services, which they get," a senior official of the agency said here on Sunday.
He said: "Wasa is facing a huge financial burden due to the outstanding amounts against the defaulters. Therefore, it has decided to launch an intensive recovery campaign."
He made it clear that no official of the agency has been authorised to get cash from the consumers against their dues, as it is responsibility of the consumers to deposit the amount in banks.
He said that the consumers should confirm identity of the Wasa officials before allowing them disconnection or dealing other matters with them to avoid any fraud.
Wasa deputy directors can be contacted at the concerned towns in case of any problem related to bills etc on their phone numbers at Aziz Bhatti Town 7260267, Allama Iqbal Town 7566626, Ravi Town 7701348, Data Ghanj Buksh Town 7596422 and Nishter Town at 3121631, he added.
He expressed confidence that the campaign would be successful due to hard work of the Wasa staff and co-operation of its consumers and the recovered amount would be used to improve facilities for the consumers.
