Troops have killed 20 militants in raids on a madressah and a camp in tribal territory near the Afghan border as part of ongoing operations against al Qaeda-linked fighters, the military said on Monday. Eight people were killed at the seminary in South Waziristan's Lalejai area while 12 were killed in "hand-to-hand" fighting in the separate raid on the camp in the Karam Manzai Chun Khel area, a military spokesman said in a statement.
"The stronghold was busted after fierce fighting," he said referring to the attack on the seminary, adding that it was used to launch attacks on security forces and civilians.
In the camp, "Miscreants managed to take away bodies of six along with them while six bodies were recovered by the security forces," he said.
In another "swift operation" security forces flushed out militants from Khon Khela and Draz Langer Khel areas.
