23 Nov, 2004

Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed hopes that the release of Asif Ali Zardari under Supreme Court directions will bring the government and the opposition parties closer towards rapprochement. He was commenting on the Supreme Court's order granting bail to the husband of former prime minister and chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Benazir Bhutto.
He said that now if the opposition parties will take a step towards reconciliation, the government will take two steps forward.
Shaikh Rashid who is official spokesman of the federal government said that the government would respect and implement without delay the orders of the Supreme Court and will await the reaction of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
He said that the forthcoming local government elections would bring the political activity to the each locality whether in town or rural areas and for a successful and peaceful conduct of elections a rapprochement on national level was imperative.
He hoped that opposition would respond with goodwill and assist in conclusion of the local government election "as it needs two hands to clap".
