After two days hearing regarding excise duty on imports by Azad Kashmir, the First Bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its decision. However, in a short order, the Court directed the counsel for government and appellants to file written arguments by the first Monday of December.
The case pertains to excise duty and other taxes on the goods imported by indenters in Azad Kashmir or with which finished products were provided to consumers there.
The litigants are nearly 60 importers or manufactures of various goods including cotton textiles, foam products, edible oils, leather products to garments. The amount involved runs into millions of rupees.
