27 Nov, 2004

A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim on Friday issued show-cause notices against more than ten-officials of city government and Nazim of New Karachi Town, Shafique-ur-Rahman Usmani for December 3. The bench was hearing a contempt of court application filed by a number of affectees whose houses were demolished allegedly while a status quo order issued by the bench is in place.
Manzoor Ahmed EDO Legal of City Government, appearing before the bench denied the allegation that order of the court was violated and said no demolition was carried out after orders of the court and machinery for demolition was lying at the disputed sites since before the petitions were filed before SHC.
The bench however declined to accept the explanation by the counsel for City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and issued show cause notices against Town Nazim, New Karachi, Iqbal Qureshi, Director, KDA Wing, TPO concerned and SHO of Sir Syed police station for December 3.
The same bench also issued notices to the Deputy Attorney General and Advocate General Sindh for November 30 while hearing a constitutional petition filed by Liaquat Ali Sher through Advocate, Ghulam Shabbir Shar.
The petitioner challenged reduction of one seat to Sindh Bar Council from two for Khairpur District. The two identical petitions were also fixed on the same date before the bench.
