Individuals and NGOs have adopted as many as 300 schools of City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and running the affairs of these schools. District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood said this while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the Cathedral Schools System, here, at Alhamra Hall on Saturday.
Amer maintained that the CDGL had already introduced English medium of instructions in 76 schools and also planned to establish one model school in each of the six towns comprising the City District.
The CDGL would award gold medals to those working for promotion of education in Lahore, he announced.
The CDGL would also honour Bishop of Lahore Dr Alexander John Malik on the eve of his Silver Jubilee as Chairman of the Lahore Diocesan Board of Education. He observed that the nation was indebted to those who had been devoting time, energy and resources for providing education facilities to the children with a missionary zeal.
He assured that the City District Government was taking all possible steps for making education affordable for students belonging to lower and middle classes.
