Industrial uplift crucial for scaling down unemployment: Soomro

Acting President, Muhammadmian Soomro has said that sustainable industrial development could play a vital role in minimising the unemployment in the country. He was speaking at the annual function of Kotri Trade and Industry Association at Kotri Site here on Sunday. Soomro said the government is fully alive to the problems of the industrial community and taking all possible steps to resolve them.
He said efforts have also been made to provide all facilities and congenial atmosphere to investors and for this reason number of foreign investors have shown keen interest in various disciplines of industrial sector, particularly in power and oil and gas.
Referring to their demands, the Acting President assured the industrialists that they would be taken up with the concerned ministries of provincial and federal government.
He said that their demand for allotment of land for the extension of the industrial area has been favourably considered and soon they would be allotted additional land for this purpose.
Regarding the market committees, Soomro said the entire market committee would be streamlined and the market fee would be collected in transparent manner strictly in accordance to Agriculture Produce Market Act.
He said the Sindh government has already taken a decision not to charge cotton transportation fee on the cotton exported to Punjab, however, the matter would be raised with the provinces to ensure strict implementation on the decision.
Later, replying to the queries of newsmen about the construction of dams, the Acting President said the decision to construct dams for the conservation of water resources would be made public soon.
He said there are reservations in a section of people about the construction of dams but the question remains to be answered that how they are going to solve the problems related to the quantity and quality of water affecting the productivity of crop in some areas of the province.
The water situation had adversely affected the growth of agriculture sector, which had enormous impact on socio-economic fabric in rural areas of the province as such that it had to be resolved, Soomro added.
Responding to a question about granting the Kotri City a status of district, he said it is being considered and added that the government is also considering new demarcation of some districts in the province.
Kotri Trade and Industry Association presented a shield in recognition of the services of Muhammadmian Soomro for development of the industrial sector.
Earlier, the Acting chairman of the KTIA, Mian Tariq Tauqeer in his welcome address demanded that the Kotri Site should be given representation in the Site Ltd, and that it should also be granted status of an export processing zone.
