The Swiss franc notched up fresh gains against the US dollar on Thursday as solid US economic data failed to dispel increasingly gloomy sentiment over the outlook for the greenback. The dollar last changed hands at 1.1379/83 francs, compared to 1.1441/45 francs in Europe. The greenback hit a record low against the euro on Thursday. The euro last traded at 1.5203/12 francs, compared to around 1.5225/30 francs late on Wednesday.
Traders said reports showing accelerating US factory growth and robust consumer spending failed to stem the dollar's slide, caused by worries about the gaping US budget and current account deficits and the country's ability to fund them.
