Country needs $5 billion for power projects: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday said Pakistan was looking for an investment of over dollars five billion in the power generation projects, largely from private sector during next three to five years. He was reviewing private power generation potential here at the Prime Minister House. The meeting informed the Prime Minister that Pakistan Private Infrastructure Board (PPIB) had been restructured. It was also informed PPIB was arranging road shows in Dubai and London to offer a long list of power generation projects and attract foreign investment.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan provided ample opportunities and investment in power sector and investment in power sector was critical for economic growth.
He said Pakistan needed to focus on gas, hydel and coal to generate cost effective electricity. Prime Minister complimented the Minister for re-energising PPIB and directed the Board to take appropriate measures to get investment.
