Abad's plea to President and Prime Minister

04 Dec, 2004

Association of Builders and Developers (Abad) chairman Baber Mirza has urged President Pervaiz Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to direct Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to fulfil the needs of construction industry on priority basis. In a communication to the President and Prime Minister, he expressed dismay over the working of SSGC and said that the attitude of SSGC in terms of providing gas connection is not favourable to builders.
Referring to advance billing, he said that charges collected by SSGC in this regard are on higher side. Beside this, SSGC is charging nothing from those who construct house on big and small plots whereas it charges huge sums from flats owners.
Giving details of charges he said that SSGC is charging at the rate of Rs 2700 from flats up to 700 sq fit and Rs 3600 from fats on over 700 sq fit.
He said that applications of Abad members for gas connection remain pending for a long time.
In case the application is sanctioned even then it is delayed on the pretext of getting NOCs from concerned agencies for road cutting. SSGC also holds applicants responsible for getting NOC, he added.
