India keen to open consulate in Karachi: Menon

06 Dec, 2004

India is keen to open its consulate in Karachi and the repair work at Indian House in the metropolis has been recently started in this regard. This was stated by the Indian High Commissioner, Shiv Shankar Menon after a one-hour meeting with City Nazim Naimatullah Khan here on Sunday. He linked the time of opening of Indian consulate in Karachi with the decision of Government of Pakistan.
Menon pointed out that Indian government has also shown some properties in Mumbai to the Pakistani authorities for opening of consulate.
Replying to a question about visas, he said that load of work was much higher than the availability of staff at Indian High Commission and therefore visa applicants were facing delays.
"We are utilising the services of drop boxes through courier companies for receiving visa applications", he added.
