French wheat exporters plan to target new markets in South Africa in a bid to extend beyond their usual markets in the north of the continent, the main producers' group said on Monday. The AGPB said the export promotional group France Export Cereal's would organise promotional events targeting millers in South Africa, a country that currently imports 600,000 tonnes of wheat a year including 20,000-50,000 tonnes from France.
"It's a question of letting them know the quality of our wheat and let them get to know how our industry is organised," the AGPB said in its monthly newsletter. It said it expected South African imports to rise in the coming years as the population grew and eating habits changed.
