The world famous Cartoon Network has launched its operation in Pakistan to entertain about 40 percent of its population under the age of 14. Ian Diamond, senior Vice-President and General Manager of Turner Entertainment Networks Asia (Tena), based in Hong Kong, visited here in Karachi this week to get a feedback on entertainment habits of Pakistani kids and to launch new cartoon series catering to their taste.
The network has produced ever-lasting carton series like Tom and Jerry, Popeye the Sailor, Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, Boomerang, Pogo and Bob the Builder, which has a life-long entertainment value.
CartoonNetwrok.com, the network's companion website is consistently one of the top rated kids' entertainment websites. In addition to the US site, the website also has 15 satellite sites hosted in countries around the world.
The Cartoon Network invests over dollar 500 million globally in producing original programmes because it is watched in 17 languages in 165 million homes around the world across 21 separate feeds.
It offers more cartoons and more characters (2,000 plus) than any one else and draws from the world's largest and best cartoon library consisting of more than 14,000 original series and shorts.
Ian told a press briefing at a local hotel that Cartoon Network had begun another important chapter in Pakistan by launching a dedicated feed especially for the country. This strategic move is a demonstration of Cartoon Network's commitment to provide Pakistani kids with world class superlative programming.
