Two policemen killed and 5 hurt in Indian occupied Kashmir

10 Dec, 2004

At least two policemen were killed and five wounded in a attack on their camp in occupied Kashmir on Thursday, police said. Two of the wounded were in critical condition, police said. The attack coincided with a visit to India by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Heavily-armed suspected Mujahideen attacked policemen with assault rifles and grenades as the occupation security personnel were entering a newly-built camp in Imam Sahib village near Shopian township, 50 kilometers (31 miles) south-west of occupied Srinagar.
"The policemen were attacked when they were busy carrying their bags and baggages into the camp," a police spokesman said, adding the officers were caught unaware by the attack. He said the suspected Mujahideen came to the camp's main gates, opened fire and hurled grenades before fleeing.
Soldiers rushed to the village to hunt down the attackers. "Searches are continuing," the spokesman said.
