Millat Tractors Limited (MTL) is all set to produce 23,000 units during the current fiscal year. "MTL has produced 11,000 units during the first six months of the year and InshAllah, we will meet our target for 2004-05", Chairman MTL, Sikandar Mustafa Khan told APP here on Sunday. He said tractors' annual production in Pakistan was likely to touch the mark of 50,000 units during next fiscal year from the present level of 40,000.
He said the MTL had expanded its production capacity by 35 percent this year to help meet the ever-increasing demand of tractors in Pakistan.
Khan said MTL had attained a deletion level of 90 percent, much higher than other sectors of automobile industry.
Responding to a question, he said import of the tractors would not affect the local tractor industry. "Rather, it will create competitiveness in country's tractor industry", he said. Presently three companies- MTL, Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited and Universal Tractors Limited, are producing tractors of different makes and specifications, he said.
Sikandar Mustafa Khan said MTL was not allowed to export tractors by its principal company, Massey Ferguson (UK).
However, under special circumstances, the tractors had been to Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
He said there was great demand for Pakistani tractors in Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
