The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Sub-Committee on Export has vowed to resolve the exporters problem relating to the sales tax refund, unfair attitude of the freight forwarders and complex weight procedure at customs. Addressing the first meeting of the committee, its Chairman Muhammad Iqbal Mangrani said the shipping companies were violating rules of the State Bank of Pakistan regarding issue of bill of lading.
Advisor to the Export Sub-Committee Muhammad Salim Kapadia said the Best Export Award for 2003-04 would be held in August under the aegis of the committee.
Addressing the meeting, KCCI President Khalid Feroze exhorted the businessmen not to be scared of the quota-free regime scenario and take it as an opportunity.
He said that efforts should not be confined to increase the textile exports even though 67 percent of the export earnings came from that sector, but the entire focus must be made to promote overall exports.
He congratulated the Export sub-Committee for taking lead in convening its first session.
KCCI Senior Vice-President Mian Abrar Ahmed, speaking next, suggested that to speed up the pace of economic growth, the import of raw material should be made zero-rated and the procedure for refund of the sales tax should be made quicker.
