Human trafficking still continued in Pakistan even after huge loss of lives in different countries. During the year 2004, 113 Pakistanis have been killed and 2,114 were arrested or disabled, while illegally crossing to Europe, said Ulfat Hussain Kazmi, President, Global Foundation, an NGO, working on plight of prisoners of Pakistan, here on Monday.
Releasing a report on human trafficking, Global Foundation chief said that persons involved in human trafficking are making money by exploiting human miseries. Due to unemployment and lack of social justice and lack of opportunities, Pakistani youths are trying to go Europe for job and better life, he said adding that human traffickers are exploiting these sentiments and are misguiding people.
Giving details of the life losses during illegal cross over to Europe via different routes, Ulfat Kazmi said that on January 13 one Pakistani youth was shot dead by Irani security personnel at Pak-Iran border, on January 20 nine Pakistani drowned on shores of Dubai. He said on February 5, two persons died at Greece-Turkish border. More than 100 Pakistani were missing in the cyclone on Australian coast.
Giving details of the detained Pakistanis, Global Foundation chief said that 1,528 persons have been arrested by Irani Border Forces, 58 by Greece Maritime Security Agency, 211 by Turkish Police and 13 by Poland Police.
"It is a point of concern for the ruling elites of Pakistan that young generation is seeing their future bleak in country and they are selling their valuables to get a visa of Europe. This trend should be arrested in order to save our young generation from destruction", he said.
