The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has submitted an adjournment motion with the National Assembly Secretariat, seeking a discussion in the House on the prevailing situation in Gilgit. ARD Parliamentary Secretary Izhar Amrohvi told Business Recorder that the alliance noted that the reports appearing in the media on Gilgit had caused grave concern among the public.
The motion said that at least 11 casualties were reported in the media, including six of a family burnt alive in riots, which broke out following the shooting on a popular leader on January 07. The enormity of the situation demands, the routine business of the House may be suspended and the matter discussed threadbare.
As many as 10 lawmakers, belonging to ARD has signed the motion, which was filed with the secretariat on Monday. Their names are Aitzaz Ahsan, Naveed Qamar, Nawab Yousaf Talpur, Pervaiz Ashraf, Khurshid Shah, Khawaja Asif, Sherry Rehman, Zamurad Khan, Pervaiz Malik and Nayyar Bokhari.
Similarly, the alliance moved an another adjournment motion to discuss the blasts at the Sui gas field installations. Eleven parliamentarians, namely Sherry Rehman, Aitzaz Ahsan, Sardar Yaqub Nasir, Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Fauzia Habib, Khurshid Shah, Khawaja Asif, Qamaruz Zaman Kera and Maimoona Hashmi signed the motion.
The motion, seeking a debate in the House, quoted newspapers, reporting blowing up of a gas pipeline in the Sui township, after a gun-battle between armed men and security personnel on January 06. Four persons, including a minor girl and a Frontier Corps soldier were killed. It was alleged in the reports that the security personnel had targeted a residential area.
