The gas supply from Sui field has temporarily been suspended due to closure of purification plant, the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced here on Tuesday evening. According to a PPL press release, the gas line within the plant got damaged following indiscriminate firing by anti-social elements on the installations. The management of the company is conscious of the situation created by anti-people elements and wishes to inform all the concerned that as soon as the security situation stabilises, the supply of gas will be restored after necessary repairs.
A spokesman of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in Rawalpindi that in the past few days there has been continuing reports of miscreants targeting the Sui installations and families of the workers of Pakistan Petroleum Limited.
At about 4:30pm on Tuesday, few miscreants under the garb of taking a patient to the doctor approached gate number 5 and requested for gate to be opened.
Immediately upon opening of gate, miscreants stormed and overpowered the defence services guard (DSG) personnel manning the gate, killing one and seriously injuring another,
In the meanwhile, more miscreants assembled outside the Sui installations as civilians attacked watchtower number 10 and 11 and took control from the DSG.
The miscreants then targeted the acid pipeline gas purification plant and residences of the PPL workers housing their families.
The Frontier Corps troops were moved in to save the situation and restored the positions and pushed out miscreants. The area is now under the Frontier Corpse control.
The PPL authorities have temporarily shut the gas supply in order to avert more damage, whereas on Wednesday, they would assess the extent of damage that has been inflicted to the acid pipelines and other facilities in Tuesday's rocket firing.
The firefight has left two DSG persons killed and five injured whereas casualties of miscreants are not known.
It has also been reported that about 16 vehicles carrying miscreants from Kahan (Marri tribe area) have moved to Sui who are likely to join those already present.
Necessary steps are in hand to ensure defence of important installation of Sui and protect families of PPL workers.
