Registration of domestic servants to start in Karachi after Eid

14 Jan, 2005

The Karachi police will start registration of domestic servants after Eid-ul-Azha to compile a comprehensive record that will help in reducing robberies. Sindh Home Affairs Minister Rauf Siddiqui stated this, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Defence Residents Society (DRS), office at Defence Police Station, here on Thursday.
He said the statistics provided by the investigation department of Sindh police reveals that about 70 percent home robberies were co-ordinated or planned by the domestic servants. So, "We have to register our servants for the sake of our security that would not be compromised at any cost.
"I assumed the charge of Home Department to serve the people and always propose things for improvement," he said.
He urged the citizens of Karachi to participate in community policing to improve the performance of the Police Department, especially the environment of police stations, which needs proper attention.
Rauf said, so far, eight Madadgar-15 centres have been established in the city. In these centres, the community has provided land, constructed the buildings, provided motorcycles, mobile van and above all fuel. All this would definitely help in improving law and order and controlling crimes, he added.
Earlier, DRS President Zafar Iqbal said that the people hesitate to visit police stations because of the attitude of the policemen and it needs improvement. There is also a need that the people should co-operate with the police, which would take some time, but would definitely improve the conditions, he added.
There is a general feeling that people did not provide information to the police due to misbehaviour of the police personnel. Now, "We witnessed that things are changing as new batch of police personnel are educated and sensible and they are co-operating with the public," he added.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Tariq Jamil said the concept of community policing is growing in the city. So far, the community has contributed outstandingly from their end and supports the department in establishing eight Madadgar-15 centres.
People always criticise the role of police stations, which to some extent, is correct and it needs our attention for improvement. The atmosphere in the police stations would improve, but it needs time from the people to educate manners to the police personnel.
Later, Rauf Siddiqui inaugurated the DRS office.
