15 Jan, 2005

The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) has hailed the Customs Administrative Reform (Care) project which would ensure the clearance of the goods in four hours. Prgmea zonal Chairman Dawood Usman Jhakura said on Friday that apart from the quality, timely delivery was one of the hallmarks for success in the new World Trade organisation (WTO) free trade era.
The clearance of the imports and exports would help the textile exporters to compete in post-quota period, he added.
He said the speedy clearance would greatly reduce the cost of production, as it would save the trade from payment huge amount in demurrage on goods lying at the ports waiting from clearance.
The Prgmea zonal chief believed the four hours clearance limit was mainly for the imports and export consignments would take still lesser time and the goods would reach their destinations on time.
He praised the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Chairman for taking bold steps for simplifying and automating Customs and other tax procedures to the advantage of the business community.
