'Pakistan can promote export of services'

15 Jan, 2005

Pakistan has tremendous opportunities to promote the export of its services in several sectors, including construction and engineering consultancy services and adequate manpower, and if due attention is given, it could earn even more foreign exchange than the export of goods.
These views were expressed by Dr Amjad Pervez Sheikh while delivering his keynote speech in a round table discussion organised by Nespak WTO Cell here on Friday. The theme of the discussion was 'WTO in 2005 and Beyond.'
Dr Pervez stressed that the government and the stakeholders in Pakistan must be serious in negotiating the WTO services sector, which has already commenced under the Doha Development Agenda (DDA). 'As Pakistan's 62 percent exporters are from textile sector, after entry in WTO, the quality and cost of these goods must be made competitive in order to enable Pakistan accelerate its export in textile products in the Quota Free Regime,' he added.
