Senior surgeons at a surgical symposium held under the auspices of Society of Surgeons of Pakistan (SSP) updated the knowledge of surgeons with reference to latest developments taking place in surgery. Professor Mazhar Saeed Choudhry, President of the Society of Surgeons of Pakistan, Lahore chapter presided while Professor Syed Zafar Haider was the chief guest.
Surgeons and medical teachers from all over Punjab including Professor Javed Raza Gardezi, General Secretary, Dr Aamer Zaman Khan, Finance Secretary, Dr Abrar Ashraf Ali, Dr Syed Asghar Naqi, Dr Waris Farooka, Major General M.H. Andrabi, Professor Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Professor Masood Butt, Dr Munawar Nadeem, Dr Ghulam Mustafa Arain, Professor Jaffar Hussain Jafree attended the symposium.
The guest speakers highlighted the important surgical issues.
Professor Muhammad Arshad Cheema, highlighting the issue of surgical management of portal hypertension, said that adrenal tumours are the main cause of hypertension among the people.
Professor Abdul Fazal Ali Khan discussed the modern treatment of breast cancer.
Professor Khalid Javed Abid, presenting cases of adrenal tumours, said that if chemotherapy and radiotherapy are carried out prior to operation, the size of tumour could be reduced significantly. This was followed by a very lively discussion among the participants.
Professor Tahir Ahmad Shah, Associate Professor Dr Khalid Masood Gondal discussed operations of oesophagus in benign and malignant conditions. They also threw light upon the management of complications of diseases of oesophagus.
In the question-answer session, healthy discussion took place among the participants.
In the end, shield was presented to Aadil Aziz in recognition of his services for academic activities of the society.
General Secretary Dr Aamer Zaman Khan invited the participants to attend the forthcoming international surgical conference to be held on February 25 & 26 at a local hotel.
