Punjab government has prepared a comprehensive plan costing Rs 31 billion for undertaking the lining of canals in the province. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that under the plan, lining of 8,873-mile-long canals would be executed in various parts of the province. The step was being taken for providing sufficient water to the tail-end farmers for irrigation purposes as well as to check wastage of canal water.
Besides, necessary steps were also being taken for enhancing the flowing capacity from 12,243 cusecs to 15,500 cusecs of canals.
This programme would be accomplished at a cost of Rs 2.40 billion, the sources added.
