German car-maker Volkswagen plans to build a budget car for south east Asia in partnership with Malaysian car maker Proton, the company's chief executive told a German magazine in an interview to appear on Monday. VW chief Bernd Pischetsrieder said he planned a budget car which could be made for 2,300 euros ($3,000), to be developed with Proton.
Pischetsrieder said that he knew of no plans for a factory in India - a market rumour - and said there would be no stopping his cost-saving programme ForMotion.
