It gives me great pleasure to know that the daily Business Recorder of Karachi is bringing out a Special Report that will be published on the occasion of the Indo-Pak Reverence Conference 2005 in January at Pune. The conference will promote Indo-Pak Reverence, Friendship and Peace through bilateral trade and joint ventures in various industrial and agricultural sectors as well as through cultural exchanges.
This merely is a most appropriate occasion for a special supplement that would promote greater understanding between the business communities of the two countries and help advance the ongoing peace process between Pakistan and India.
With the large size of the markets in both countries, there is clearly tremendous scope for increased bilateral trade. Our imports from India are more than four times our exports. Pakistan is a significant supplier to India of textiles, yarns and fabrics, fruits and vegetables, molasses and POL products.
The scope of bilateral trade can be further enlarged. Like previous years, Export Promotion Bureau has participated in Indian International Trade Fair (14-27 November 2004) and recently participated in SAARC Trade Fair (6-10 January 2005). A delegation of women entrepreneurs also visited India during SAARC Trade Fair.
Indo-Pak Reverence Conference will certainly promote business contacts between the two countries and thereby enhance bilateral trade that will be a significant confidence building measure. I wish the Indo-Pak Reverence Conference a high success.
