18 Jan, 2005

On the directive of Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB), Brigadier Iftikhar Hyder, the engineers and security staff of the Water Board thwarted an attempt of land mafia to put up encroachments on the KWSB's North East Karachi Filter Plant reserve land. According to KWSB, taking advantage of Sunday as holiday, the land mafia started constructing hutments on the Filter Plant's reserve land.
On receipt of information, the managing director called for immediate action against the land grabbers.
As a result the concerned engineers and security personnel reached the spot and dismantled 20 hutments which had been put up at the land by land grabbers.
A KWSB spokesman said that land mafia had tried to put up hutments after showing a fake decree to SHO Surjani Town and wanted to establish a village by the name of Umer Goth. However, their attempt was foiled by the water board officials.
