Mobile squads deployed in Lahore

As many as 30 squads of Elite force commandos and 70 squads of Mujahid force along with heavy police contingents, equipped with sophisticated weapons, have been deployed in round-the-clock mobile patrol in the city to ensure law and order during the Eid holidays. Capital City Police chief, DIG Tariq Saleem told newsmen here on Tuesday that special security arrangements were in place to check any untoward incident in the provincial metropolis.
He said any police official found absent from the duty would be placed under suspension, and strict departmental proceedings under efficiency and discipline rules would be taken which might lead to dismissal from service or demotion.
He said all mobile teams would co-ordinate with one another about their patrol position and would keep the concerned police officials informed, adding no absence from duty, under any pretext, would be tolerated.
Senior police officers, Additional SPs, ASPs and DSPs have been directed to monitor the performance of the mobile squads and conduct surprise checks.
He disclosed that security cover would be provided at all Eidgahs, mosques and imambargahs in the city, and would comprise police and personnel of special branch, and bomb disposal units.
Arrangements were also in place to seal and cordon off the entire city and to round up the culprits in case of a mishap, he said.
