The 7th Session of the Saudi-Pak Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) will be held from February 7 to 9 to explore new avenues of bilateral trade along with recommendations for increasing economic co-operation. The official sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday the Saudi Minister for Commerce and Industry Hashim A Yamani would arrive in Pakistan along with 30-member official delegation.
According to the sources, the Federal Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan would chair the meeting. Beside commerce ministry, high ups of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Production, Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL), Ministry of Water and Power and other would participate in this session.
Elaborating the agenda, the sources said both the countries would discuss ways and means to increase trade between the two countries through exhibitions, launching of more joint ventures, exchange of visits of commercial delegations and stimulating the role of Saudi-Pak Business Council.
Besides, they will try to encourage co-operation in the fields of scientific research in general and the fields of application in particular especially among universities and research institutes in both the countries.
Exchange of information on investment opportunities, co-operation in agriculture/livestock sectors water purification would also come under discussion.
The sources added the Saudi government is also interested in getting approval from Pakistani government to train Saudi staff in the fields of equipment maintenance, development of wire and wireless communications systems and signal system in addition to learning about sea inspection system in Pakistan.
They also want co-operate in the field of transport, tourism as well as post, postal parcels and express mail.
Agreements to boost trade and industrial production are expected to be signed during this session.
