MMA leader laments US designs against Iran

21 Jan, 2005

The central leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad, has condemned the threatening tone of the US president about the military intervention in Iran. He was referring to the report published in "The New Yorker" by Seymour Hersh, in which the reporter had disclosed infiltration of the US special forces inside Iran to destroy the Iranian nuclear establishment.
The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leader said that the report by one of the most well-connected journalists in America was alarming.
Professor Khurshid said it was lamentable that the US President had come out with a threatening statement just two days before his induction as president for the second term and continued issuing threat of military intervention in Iran.
"The present US leadership is moving in a clandestine manner towards some kind of military intervention in Iran," he observed.
American aggression against Iran, Professor Khurshid Ahmad maintained, must be treated as aggression not merely against a country, but the entire Muslim world.
"Defence of Iranian nuclear establishment would be a part of the defence of Pakistani nuclear establishment because if America gets licence to destroy vital security assets of one country, this would open the door for violation of sovereignty and security of other countries," he said.
He emphasised that it was imperative of our common defence that the government of Pakistan and other Muslim countries as well as the countries of the region should protest against American designs and use all possible means to keep this region safe from American aggression.
