Concessional loans for poultry farmers sought

21 Jan, 2005

Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has asked the government to provide concessional loans to the small poultry farmers. A spokesman of PPA said here on Thursday that a large number of poultry farmers want to revive their business, which was badly hit by bird flu crisis last year. He said that government could increase the growth of poultry sector by providing necessary assistance to small poultry farmers, which are facing difficult time these days.
He demanded of the government that unjustifiable taxes imposed by the government particularly in Punjab are hindering growth of poultry industry in the country. He also demanded of the government to rationalise the electricity charges.
Moreover, the Central Disease Control Committee of Pakistan Poultry Association has recommended that Pakistan Poultry Association should organise a chain of workshops on Bio Security for awareness of farmers countrywide. The demand was made in a meeting of the committee, which was also attended by representatives of PPA and poultry scientists.
