City Nazim Karachi on Thursday said Sindh Local Government Commission (SLGC) had lost its credibility in the eyes of masses due to misuse of Commission by some elements in the provincial government who were using it for their "malicious political interests". However, he welcome any probe by the authorities concerned against him, as he was not only a law-abiding citizen but also a lawyer himself and had never done anything contrary to the rules and regulation.
City Nazim, who is on personal visit to Saudi Arabia for performing Haj, said on telephone that inclusion of his name in investigation against some officials of CDGK had "exposed dishonesty of some elements of provincial government".
"But it is satisfactory that role of such elements has been laid bare before the Karachiites" he added.
The transfers of higher officials of city government were aimed at slowing the pace of development process in the city, he said adding that CDGK was being defamed by levelling baseless allegations.
Khan, however, maintained that people could not be misguided by such "baseless propaganda".
He told he would clarify and inform Karachiites and establishment about the situation through press conference after his arrival in the country and unveil those elements who were trying to "make a mountain without any mole".
Meanwhile, a spokesman of CDGK, in a statement issued here on Thursday, said honesty and fairness of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan had not only been acclaimed by all walks of life of Karachi but President Pervez Musharraf also praised his honesty and marvellous performance, repeatedly.
He added Federal Minister for Local Government former Justice Abdul Razzaq Thahim had paid him tribute for his honesty and righteousness in a ceremony held few days ago and in the presence of Sindh Minister for Local Government Waseem Akhtar.
Referring to the news published few days ago regarding statement of Director General NAB Sindh Major General Haroon Sikandar Pasha, the spokesman said DG NAB had clearly stated Naimatullah Khan was not involved in any misappropriation.
"Untiring efforts of Naimatullah Khan for development of Karachi were obvious and attempts to defame him is considered to be baseless and void", the spokesman said.
