Six states confirm participation in ECO seminar

Six countries including Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan have confirmed their participation at Third ECO seminar on "Trade and Investment Networking," opens on January 31 here. This was stated at a meeting, which reviewed the arrangements for holding two-day seminar of Economic Co-ordination Organisation (ECO) at Board of Investment (BoI) here on Tuesday.
The Board of Investment (BoI) is hosting the seminar in collaboration with Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Federal Minister for Privatisation and Investment Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will inaugurate the seminar, which has six working sessions.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad will be the guest of honour at concluding session while Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim at 1st session.
A senior official of BOI said that the confirmation of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will be received in couple of days.
He said that the experts from international bodies like International Chamber of Commerce, International Trade Centre, Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also present papers on this topic.
Besides, experts from members countries on trade and investment and experts from ECO Secretariat will present papers on trade and investment promotion among member states.
The seminar will devise a future plan of action for developing a network by the name of ECO Trade-Net to build information link between the member states about the existing trade and investment potentials.
The seminar will identify areas of co-operation, trade items and investment opportunities existing in ECO members.
The seminar will also discuss possibilities of using Gawadar Port by the ECO members for effective transportation of trade merchandise.
Seminar will also review the decisions and recommendations taken at the first and second seminars held at Turkey and Iran.
