Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is going to start Wireless Local Loop (WLL) service in mid-February in the metropolis. Sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday the phone utility would provide 200,000 WLL connections in the city through applications on first-come-first-serve basis. Earlier, the southern telecommunication region (STR) started WLL service in Hyderabad in which 40,000 WLL connection are to be provided while Sukkur have 37,000 WLL connections followed by Quetta with 23,000 connections capacity.
So far the phone utility have provided 17,800 WLL connections in these three cities of southern telecommunication region, the source said adding that the city's (Karachi) WLL service would commence from mid-February with 200,000 new WLL connections.
The cost of fixed WLL set would be Rs 3,450 while the handset would cost Rs 3,900 with an effective range of 20-kilometres radius, but due to high rise building in the city it would be effective up to 10-km.
The WLL services is prepaid, the consumers would get the scratch card from the price ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000.
The phone utility would charge Rs 7 per day as line rent for WLL service.
