US MIDDAY: wheat mixed on short covering

Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures were mixed in choppy mid-morning trade on Wednesday as technical selling offset strength from short covering, traders said. Declines in Minneapolis Grain Exchange March wheat were bearish.
As of 11:15 am CST (1715 GMT), CBOT March wheat was down 1/4 cent per bushel at $2.96-3/4.
Wheat opened higher on short covering. Large speculators remained heavily net short in the latest Commodity Futures Trading Commission report, prompting traders to cover some of their short positions, brokers said.
