Restaurant to be set up at Shahi Hamam

28 Jan, 2005

Arrangements have been initiated by the Punjab Tourism Department to set up a restaurant with an ambience of Mughal era at the historical building of Shahi Hamam, Delhi Gate here. Besides providing meals, information about the historic Mughal era would also be provided, said Punjab Tourism Minister Mian Mohammad Aslam Iqbal while addressing a review meeting held for this purpose, stated a handout issued here on Thursday.
Punjab Minister said that the restoration work has been initiated by the Tourism Department with the co-operation of the federal Archeology Department.
He said that encroachments have been removed around Shahi Hamam while security was being tightened. The minister said that a strategy would soon be formulated to arrest those who would damage the building.
He said that permission will have to be taken for shooting film or drama at this historic place. It may be noted that efforts to set up a Mughal based restaurant at the same site earlier proved futile as the contractor let down the tourism department.
