LHC summons SP Sheikhupura

29 Jan, 2005

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to SP Sheikhupura and directed him to appear before the court and inform as to why he did not register case against the accused involved in a gang rape case in accordance with the law. The court passed these orders during the course of proceedings in a bail petition filed by one Muhammad Azmat, a co-accused in gang rape case.
On a petition filed by rape victim Shahzadi, the LHC had directed the SP Sheikhupura, a year ago, to listen to the petitioner and insert relevant sections in FIR in the light of her statement.
The LHC, when noticed that relevant sections have not so far mentioned in FIR, took action and summoned the SP.
CHARGES FRAMED: The LHC on Friday framed charges against Chaudhry Riaz, facing the charge of disgracing a civil judge Faisalabad. The civil judge had referred the matter to chief justice LHC for initiating proceedings against the respondent. The chief justice referred the matter to Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif for disposal.
FINE IMPOSED: The Lahore High Court has fined a person Sajjad Ali Shah for ridiculing the court by misconceiving through a petition.
Earlier, the convict had approached the LHC against EDO Lahore and was able to get a favourable decision against the respondent. The court had directed the EDO to dispose of the petitioner's matter but he approached the court again through a contempt of court petition for not implementing the court orders.
The law officer, however, informed the court that EDO has implemented the court orders in letter and spirit and had already submitted report to the judicial registrar of the august court.
The court, after examining the report, fined the convict for ridiculing the court.
