Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) president Khalid Feroz signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with seven countries and held meetings on bilateral relations with delegations of various countries on Thursday at the second day of Expo 2005. The MoUs were signed with Glasgow City Council (UK), Netherlands-Pakistan Business Council, Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Confederation of Indian Industry, Korean importers Association, Northern Chamber of Commerce in Szczccin, Poland.
Agreements were also signed between countries to extend co-operation on exchange of information, professional experience, information on products and Industrial processes and technological advancements.
Indian and Pakistani delegations have also agreed to extend co-operation to each other in the promotion of trade fairs and exhibitions both in Pakistan and in India.
The MoUs envisaged promotion, development and diversification of trade, exchange of economic information, assistance of enterprise in trade fairs and exhibitions, tie exchange of business and industrial delegations and facilitating visas.-PR
OUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: The Site Association of Industry (SAI) has signed three memorandums of understanding (MoU) with trade bodies of India, Poland and Bangladesh to increase bilateral trade between their countries.
The association has been on the focus of the visiting delegations and leaders of the federation and chambers of various countries for possible joint venture and to increase the bilateral trade between their countries.
During the EXPO 2005, SAI had necessary meetings under the Chairmanship of newly elected Chairman Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig with the delegations from Morocco, Poland, India and Bangladesh.
The delegations also visited various industries in the Site and expressed their satisfaction on the technologies, economy scale and the quality of goods being produced by those industries, which according to them were of high standard and quality.
Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig and S Sen Deputy Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have signed a MoU on behalf of their respective organisations to promote bilateral trade. Confederation of Indian Industry Director G D Sharma was also present on the occasion.
Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, on behalf of Site Association, also signed MoU with the Northern Chamber of Commerce Poland (NCCP). Other signatory was NCCP Executive Director Wojciech Brazuk. Also present at the ceremony were Consul General of Poland Ireneusz Makles and CII Director G D Sharma.
Both the countries agreed to accept SAI recommendation for the issuance of visa to their countries. They also agreed to organise solo country exhibition in their respective countries.
According to a SAI communication, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig will lead a delegation of Site Association to Delhi, and Poland as these countries are already doing substantial trade through third country Dubai and Turkey, which is a loss for both countries and increases the product cost by about 20 percent.
In the afternoon, SAI also signed MoU, on the same lines, with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). DCCI President Sayeeful Islam and SAI Chairman Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig singed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisation.
On the occasion Md Abdul Hannan Deputy High Commissioner Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, Alamgir M Z Rahman Vice President Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers Exporters Association were also present.
The members of the delegations also expressed their keen desire to share trade information between the two trade bodies to understand each other's requirements.
Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig is also conducting a Product Workshop with the leading international buyers at the EXPO 2005 to provide details about Pakistani edge in Textile. According to him, Expo 2005 is a historic event for Pakistan.
