Data protection, e-crimes bills to be tabled before cabinet

The ministry of information technology and telecommunication has prepared draft bills on 'data protection act and e-crimes' which would be tabled before the federal cabinet next month for approval. Pakistan is going to establish fiber optic link with India in next few months. This was stated by federal minister for information technology and telecom Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari while talking to newsmen after the inauguration ceremony of Hyundai Information Technology (HIT) Pakistan here on Thursday.
"Pakistan is going one step forward as far as Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are concern to protect data of local and foreign companies."
"We are the first country initiating the 'data protection act', even neighbouring country like India do not have such law to protect data," he added.
"This would no only increase the confidence of foreign as well as local IT companies to protect their medical records, legal transcription and accounting work, but it would also protect the businesses of outsourcing," he added.
The installation of second submarine cable 'SEAMEWE-4' would be completed by the end of this year. The fiber optic link from India will also be established in next few months, he added.
"In the wake of persistent policies of government, unemployment amongst educated people of urban areas will be decreased to a minimal level with in next two years," he said, adding the perception about Pakistan abroad was also changed due to such policies.
He pointed out that piracy in Pakistan is very low as compare to neighbouring countries while on the other hand the law-enforcement agencies were playing their role to combat such menaces.
He was of the view that due to deregulation of telecom sector and announcement of mobile and broadband polices the dream of IT revolution in Pakistan come true.
He also lauded efforts of the NCR, the Hyundai and other private sector companies bringing huge investment in IT and telecom sector of Pakistan. "Pakistan has become IT hub of the region as the IT ministry is providing infrastructure facilities which benefiting the new IT players," he said.
The development of the e-content program is under progress and completion of such a different program will enable the sector to have a much reliable software in regional languages.
The IT revolution has started in the country, these huge companies started their operation not only in Pakistan, but also find work in global marketing network for their international clients.
They are not here to sell products but to start developing software by employing our IT entrepreneur that would help reduce urban educated experts, he added.
Earlier, during his address as chief guest, the minister said Hyundai IT Pakistan has invested in an area, which is considered as cottage industry in the country. The government has maintained a policy of consistency with total transparency.
"We would act as enabler and catalyst as well as maintaining a minimum level of interference, and we do not want to regulate again and again," he added.
Korean Counsel General In Pil Chun said the Pakistani government and the people are working very hard to progress in all fields, especially in the IT sector.
He hoped that the establishment of Hyundai IT Pakistan will help boost bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
President and CEO of Hyundai IT Korea, Wonin Baek, said the government of Pakistan have taken various steps to increase investors' confidence.
Singapore HP general-manager Steven Kim, country head, Hyundai IT, Pakistan, Tariq Nasim and manager marketing, Hyundai IT, Korea, Jae Hyon Shim also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, MoUs were signed between Hyundai IT Pakistan with Hewlett Packard (HP) Singapore, Oracle and Shaheen Foundation.
