All in a day's work! - A long lasting friend!

05 Feb, 2005

Where were u?
Not picking the phone?
My dear , am at Istanbul.
U r making a local call at my expense , am being charged for the international roaming.
What r u doing there?
Experiencing the hospitality of the Turks.
Really?
Ya!
Found one strange thing here?
As regards what?
Regarding our President.
Meanning?
Wherever u go and tell them that u r a Pakistani they refer to the Musharraf?
Musharraf?
Come on, am talking about the general president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Oh!
U mean the President Musharraf!
Come on!
He is the President my dear......
But first a General then a President.
No!
He was first promoted as General then he was elected as President.
Ya!
Elected President through a referendum by public votes.
True!
But here during the last four days I had been thinking something else.
Like?
Had the General opted for referendum in Turkey, he would have attracted much higher percentage of votes than what he has attracted in his own country.
U mean to say he is more popular in Turkey than in his own country?
Ya! Seems so!
He mentioned in one of his speeches about his liking one of the football team.
Great!
And the Turks mention the name of Musharraf and immediately tell you that Beshiktash football team is his favourite.
Really?
What is Beshiktash?
Beshiktash is one of the three best teams of the first league in Turkey.
Oh!
Heard that Turkey has warned on Monday that it could take action if Kurdish attempt to take control of Kirkuk.
Had no time to read newspaper, am busy.
Busy doing what?
Am visiting Turkish Republic of Cyprus along with the participants from different countries.
Means enjoying!
True!
Enjoying the scenic beauty, hospitality and friendship. A Turkish friend gave me a blue eye meant to keep bad wishes away from you. So am recieving gifts and enjoying the little island beauty.
Am thinking one thing?
That is good u have started thinking!
Come on!
Am serious! Had the Muslim countries joined hand together and trade among themselves, no one can beat us. The good things about muslims are being practised by West and the Muslims are willingly copying their bad habits without realising.
U may be right.
However, right now the corporate leaders are debating vital issues at Davos.
Is our beloved General President there?
Come on!
We also do have a prime minister in Pakistan, the selected one elected later.
Oh!
I keep on forgetting him, am sorry. What he said there about growing and glowing economy or reducing poverty ?
Mr Shaukat Aziz the elected Prime Minister speaking to corporate leaders at Davos on Friday said that : "It was time the two countries tried to consolidate their relations on solid and firm grounds, so that it could be mutually beneficial."
Are they not at the moment my dear?
Don't be critical. Mr Aziz's remarks should be viewed against what he called "the ups and downs" in US-Pakistan relations. The "ups" have been as warm and mutually beneficial as the "downs" have been full of distrust and acrimony.
My dear, am not a very intelligent person, what I learn from history is when we needed up, we got it down and when we were not expecting any thing we were upgraded.
It is what politics is my dear!and among friends we should not play politics. A friend in need is a friend in deed.
