05 Feb, 2005

Two explosions on Friday morning in the city created panic and scared people living in the vicinity of the Chief Minister House and Expo Centre who feared repetition of the blasts after some interval. City Police Chief Tariq Jamil is reported to have described the incidents as explosion of firecrackers.
The first explosion took place near the Chief Minister House at about 7:50 am in a lane popularly known as Dood Pati lane. Bomb disposal squad and the police found the cracker hidden in a garbage bin.
After the explosion Dr Ziauddin Road remained closed for about 30 minutes and the law enforcement agencies searched the area.
Vehicular traffic on this road and around the PIDC House suddenly became thin as many people thought another explosion after the first had taken place.
The same situation arose near the Expo Centre where second explosion occurred outside a building. An exhibition 'Expo-Pakistan' is currently under way and a large number of foreign dignitaries are visiting it.
In both the explosions no loss of life or injury to people was reported. After the explosions, security in the city had been beefed up and more stringent measures had been adopted to provide security to foreign dignitaries.
