A high-level meeting held with the NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) in the chair at the Governor House here on Friday reviewed the possibility to further streamline the functioning of Allama Iqbal Open University as well as expand it's network in the province and its adjoining tribal areas and took certain decisions in this connection.
The meeting, which beside the provincial secretary Higher Education Sahibzada Muhammad Khalid, was attended by Vice Chancellor of the university Dr Iltaf Hussain, Director of Regional Services Ali Asghar Hussain, Project Director Syed Attaullah Shah and the District Co-ordination Officers of Swat and Chitral, especially welcomed the decision of the AIOU with regard to the establishment of its regional offices at Abbottabad, Swat and Chitral and all the difficulties faced by it in respect of acquisition of land were resolved on the spot.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor stressed the importance of efforts to promote education in the province and Fata and said that there is a dire need of taking concrete initiatives on the part of the university to further expand its network on priority basis.
He also reiterated that the university should have to develop its network in such a way so as it could be converted into formal educational institution in future. In this connection, he also mentioned the prevailing requirements in Chitral district and said that the proposed regional office should be equipped with maximum facilities to facilitate the respective youth to their utmost desire.
He also expressed the hope that the university would successfully expand its network throughout the province and Fata.
