Two Pakistanis convicted of drug trafficking were beheaded in Jeddah on Sunday, Interior Ministry said. Mohammad bin Abbas bin Mohammad Ali and Shafkat bin Saghir Ahmad Bahti, alias Ershad Rashid Bahti, were sentenced to death after being found guilty of trying to smuggle heroin into the country in their stomachs, a ministry statement carried by the official SPA news agency said.
The executions brought to 12 the number of beheadings announced by Saudi authorities so far this year. Thirty-five people were beheaded in Saudi Arabia in 2004, according to an AFP tally based on official statements.
