The Mass band, representing various units of the Pakistan Army, enthralled the audience by rendering captivating performance at Fortress Stadium here on Sunday. President General Pervez Musharraf, Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Shahid witnessed the one-hour display of band amidst shivering cold and light drizzling.
The Mass band display, held under the joint aegis of Adjutant General of Pakistan Army and the Army Musical School, played folk, English and oriental tunes with equal masterly skill, and received tremendous applaud from the audience when they tuned to popular verses of Oriental Poet Allama Iqbal "Ya Rab Dil-e-Muslim Ko Wo Zinda Tammana Dey."
The band also played musical tune of some noted Punjabi mystic poets.
Youngsters, however, enjoyed evergreen musical tune "Come September" and pop music of Jawwad Ahmed and Abrar-ul-Haq, played by the army band.
President Musharraf was accorded standing ovation when he reached the stadium along with his spouse Ms Sehba Musharraf, Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, Punjab Chief Minister Ch. Pervaiz Elahi, and high-ranking military officials received him at the stadium. Musharraf who appeared to be in a good mood, waved to the audience before leaving the premises which was responded by the cheerful crowd.
