Government to complete tenure: minister

07 Feb, 2005

Minister of State for Environment Malik Muhammad Amin Aslam has said there is no political threat to the government and it will complete its five years tenure. Talking to the PPI here on Sunday he said the opposition should demonstrate sanity and co-operate with the government on the issues of national importance instead of creating issues out of non-issues.
"The military uniform of President Musharraf is a settled issue now and there is no justification for any agitation on it," he said, adding, "if the opposition believes in supremacy of the parliament, it should respect the decision taken by it."
Answering a question he said that Pakistan wants to live in peace with all its neighbours, including India. He said: "Pakistan has demonstrated time and again that it is serious in dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding disputes, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir."
Malik Muhammad Amin Aslam observed that India should also show reciprocity instead of vitiating the atmosphere. Elaborating his point, he said New Delhi should have stopped the construction of Baghliar hydropower project, the technical parameters of which are not in accordance with the Indus Water Treaty.
He lamented that the Indian intransigence left no option for Pakistan, but to approach the World Bank for appointment of a neutral observer to get the issue resolved, as the last ditch effort made by Islamabad to settle the matter through bilateral means failed.
He said: "The government is fully aware of the problems of the masses and taking all necessary measures to lessen their difficulties."
He pledged to provide all basic amenities to all the dwellers of Attock irrespective of their status at their doorsteps.
Malik Amin said: "In the past three years many uplift schemes were completed and many more are under way, which reflects the government's unwavering commitment to development of the district."
Referring to the recent development about the Sui gas project in village Hameed, a suburb area of Attock, he said that this project was in continuation of the development agenda meant to facilitate the people of the area.
