08 Feb, 2005

A three-week refresher course for civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates from Punjab started at the Federal Judicial Academy here on Monday. Chaudhry Hasan Nawaz, Director General of the Academy inaugurated the course and Khadim Hussain Malik, Director Instructions-I introduced the participants and informed them about their logistics. Addressing the participants, Chaudhry Hasan Nawaz said the objective of training was to make participants competent, efficient, impartial and effective judges.
"You have to try to achieve this target. You have to keep abreast with the latest case law and new changes in the legal field," he said to the participants of the course.
Quoting the saying of Hazrat Ali (R.A) about the virtue of a judge, he said: "They should not lose their temper and should not be corrupt, covetous or greedy. They must examine every aspect of the problem carefully. They must attach great importance to reasoning, arguments and proof."
"They should not get tired with the lengthy discussions and arguments. They must exhibit patience and perseverance in examining details. They should not develop vanity and conceit and should not be misled by flattery."
Forty five judges are participating in this training course at the Academy. Renowned resource persons both from the Bench and the Bar will deliver the lectures on various subjects during the training. These include Justice Nasirul Mulk, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, Justice Najmul Hasan Kazmi, Dr Muhammad Aslam Khaki and others.
