Canadian Parliamentarian meets Punjab chief minister

Member Canadian Parliament, Carolyne Parish called on Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi here on Monday and discussed with him matters pertaining to mutual interest. President National Congress of Pakistani Canadians Waqar Gillani also accompanied him. Talking to guests, the chief minister said it was good fortune of Pakistan that it had got a leader like President Pervez Musharraf who fulfilled his every promise with no contradiction between his words and deeds.
He said the President had created a true democratic atmosphere in the country by giving complete freedom to the press. He said because of the leadership of General Musharraf, the country overcame its internal and external problems after 9/11, and played a leading role for world peace. He further said that peace of infrastructural development in the province had been enhanced and underpasses were being constructed in the big cities to improve the traffic flow.
He added that new industries were being established, which will play an important role in poverty alleviation. 'Pakistan is an agricultural country and the government has taken concrete steps to improve the financial status of the farmers', he said.
He said special attention was also being paid towards promotion of education.
Member Canadian Parliament said that Pakistanis based in Canada were playing an active role in the fields of education, health, commerce and other sectors. Lahore was an important cultural centre and the way Basant and spring festivals are celebrated here is laudable, she added.
President National Congress of Pakistani Canadians said that PML chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi were playing a praiseworthy role in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting democratic norms.
