All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association (PPMA) has expressed concern over unjustified increase in paper price from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 per tonne during last four days. The Vice Chairman PPMA, Khamas Saeed said here on Monday that the big paper mills have established a pool in producing paper of different gramage to exploit the market and charge price of its own choice.
He said that the price would result in price hike of books and notebooks in the beginning of the new academic year. He also accused the paper mills owners' of indulging in under invoicing and thus causing substantial loss to the national exchequer.
He suggested the government to restrict the paper mill owners' to mention price and general sales tax on every ream and also inform the departments concerned about their total production, number of distributors, and quantity of paper being supplied to them so that wrong practices on their part could be checked.
